YNF PROJECTS

Young Neurosurgeons Forum has elaborate plans for a comprehensive training of neurosurgical residents as well as revision of the basic and advanced neurosurgical principles for the young neurosurgical colleagues. These ambitious projects include workshops, publications and facilitation in purchase of some basic neurosurgical instruments for the neurosurgeons starting their professional career.

  1. Workshops planned
    1. "Primary Survey & Resuscitation"
    2. "Basic Life Support"
    3. "Basic Surgical Techniques 1: Scrubbing, Gowning & Draping"
    4. "Basic Surgical Techniques 2: Sutures & Stitches"
    5. "Basic Surgical Techniques 3:                                                                    Flaps, Cleavage Lines, Dermatomes & Myotomes"
    6. "Basic Surgical Techniques 4: Positioning in Neurosurgery"
    7. "Magnification in Neurosurgery: Loops Vs Microscope"

Some of these workshops shall be hands-on, cadaver dissection and others hands-on on dummies and models. It is still being debated whether these workshops be held in bigger cities like Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad or to take these workshops to the periphery. Please contribute your opinion in this regard on the PNML (Pakistan Neurosurgery Mailing List).

  1. Basic set of instruments, basic microscope

Like the WFNS, the YNF has taken up the giant task of making the basic sets of neurosurgical instruments (craniotomy, laminectomy, microinstruments) and a very basic operating microscope available to YNF members at a subsidized rate. Availability of these shall be announced soon on this site, Insha Allah. So make sure to check this page regularly.

  1. Publications

YNF is working on making available a series of basic educational material in digital as well as print format. This material shall mainly be designed to help the neurosurgery residents in their final years of training. The material shall be available through this page, hopefully free of cost.
